Description

This wonderful coffee comes from the red clay hills of Ngozi, Burundi. Bavyeyi - which means "parents" in Kirundi - represents around 600 total producers, led by and largely comprised of women.

Natural processing brings delicious fruit notes that invoke plump berries and decadent vanilla cream. We're tasting tropical Starburst candies along with strawberry, blackberry, yellow peach, blood orange, and vanilla in a full-bodied cup - an excellent profile either hot or iced.

This selection comes from JNP Coffee, a vertically-integrated exporter and an inspiring company at the heart of Burundian specialty coffee. JNP is celebrated not just for their coffee quality, but also for their gender-sensitive approach to development and farmer empowerment. The company was founded in 2012 by Jeanine Niyonzima-Aroian, who was born in Bujumbura to a family of coffee producers and has now become a respected leader in the global specialty coffee sphere.

Bavyeyi means "parents" in Kirundi and is named in honor of the coffee growers like Jeanine's mother who cultivate coffee to pay for their children's education. The group consists of about 600 producers in Ngozi Province, led by and largely comprised of women...
